Tara Rokpa Psychotherapists

 

Edie Irwin Born in 1946 in New York City, she studied art, literature, anthropology and Asian studies, receiving her MA from University of California in 1970. She worked for a year as a staff member of Soteria House in California, an alternative to mental hospital for people in acute psychological crises. From 1972-1977 she trained with R.D. Laing and the Philadelphia Association in London. Subsequently Edie worked at Wellspring in Edinburgh, and thereafter co-founded Tara in 1986. She has recently completed a three-year meditation retreat at Samyé-Ling. From 1979 onwards she developed her therapy practice under the guidance of Akong Tulku Rinpoche. She now works for Rokpa Trust in USA and for Tara Rokpa Therapy worldwide.

Dorothy Gunne Dorothy completed her Psychology degree at Trinity College, Dublin. Subsequently she completed a Masters degree in Psychological Science (Psychotherapy) at University College, Dublin. She has also trained as a family therapist, clinical supervisor and family therapy trainer. She currently works as principal psychologist at the Rehabilitation Institute in Ireland. She has a 20-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son. Dorothy is Director of the Tara Rokpa Therapy training and is therefore currently not available for group weekend workshops.

Carol Sagar Carol works part-time giving supervision to members of the Creative Arts Therapies team for Norfolk Mental Health Care NHS Trust. Until mid-1997 she was Senior Art Therapist for the Trust's Child and Family Psychiatry Centre for 13 years. Following a Jungian analytic therapy process she began studying with the Ven. Akong Tulku Rinpoche. Carol formalized her training with a Diploma in Art Therapy at Goldsmith College, University of London 1984. She has contributed a chapter on "Art Therapy with Sexually Abused Children" to the book "Working with Children in Art Therapy" (eds. Caroline Case and Tessa Dalley, Routledge Kegan & Paul, London). She has also contributed to an American book on Transpersonal Art Therapy. She sees some clients in private practice. Carol has three daughters, a son, and four grand-children.

Brion Sweeney Brion works with individuals and groups in both private and public practice and is currently employed as a consultant psychiatrist to Eastern Health Board Addiction Services in Dublin, Ireland. He trained first as a Family Physician before specialising in Psychiatry. He has been a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 1983. In 1986 he obtained a Medical Master degree in Psychotherapy from University College Dublin. Brion has a 20-year-old daughter.

...the next generation: The participants of the first Tara Rokpa Therapy training course (1993-1997) have started travelling to work with groups: Annie Dibble, Lorna Hensey, Lorna Watson, Ulrich Küstner, Stephan Storm.
